Let’s Begin to See Beyond the Horizon of the Mundane

Dr. Shobhana Singh

We all human beings are seekers because we are always trying to uncover meaning and purpose in our life. This search is not mundane but it’s deep rooted and embedded within us. Our true nature transcends the mundane life. We are always trying to rise above the above the ordinary struggles of our existence and want to realize and know what our true potential is. The fact is that we never know our potential until and unless we come across that kind of challenges that test our potentials which are hidden in us. Those challenges and our successful struggle with them make us realize that we as humans have immense power to overcome many challenges in our life. By giving the test in our lives we not only give tests but also test our hidden potentials, so it is essential to be ready for tests in our lives and give our utmost performance.

There is one other interesting fact in the life’s test that we also forget the real purpose in our life. Due to the pressure of survival, meeting our basic needs, fulfilling our mundane desires and fulfilling society’s expectations, we overshadow our deeper purpose. Consequently we slip into a survival mode, which is a state of existence that gives priorities to our immediate needs and concerns over our creative and spiritual growth. But to search the inner satisfaction we should not forget few practices like: the beauty of mindfulness, finding joy in routine work, cultivating creativity, connection with others, nature as a catalyst and embracing change in our lives. The beauty of mindfulness can be achieved by being present in each moment, and we open our senses to the world around us. The simple act of drinking a cup of coffee can become a ritual, filled with the aroma of freshly brewed beans and the warmth of the cup in our hands. When we practice mindfulness, we start to notice the details we usually overlook: the colors of the leaves on our walk, the sound of laughter from nearby children.

Finding joy in routine can sometimes be monotonous but they can also be the framework for finding joy. Listen to an inspiring podcast, indulge in an audio book, or simply enjoy the scenery as you drive or ride the train. By reframing how we view our routines, we can inject moments of joy and discovery into our days. Cultivating creativity is another interesting way to find happiness. Creativity is a gateway to the extraordinary. We can engage ourselves in creative activities like—painting, writing, cooking, or crafting which can help us in transforming the mundane into something magical. We should try to incorporate creativity into our daily life. Start writing not only about big things but also about the small, beautiful moments we experience each day. Connection with others is also the other way that is beyond mundane life. Humans are inherently social creatures, and meaningful connections can elevate our experience of the mundane. Engage with those around you, whether it’s a friendly chat with a neighbor or a heartfelt conversation with a friend. Share stories, laughter, and experiences. From these connections, we remind ourselves that life is rich with shared experiences and collective joy.

Nature acts as a catalyst because it has an incredible ability to inspire and awaken our senses. Even in urban environments, moments of beauty can be found—be it a small park, a vibrant mural, or the changing seasons. We should make it our habit to step outside, even for a few minutes, to observe the world around us and appreciate the way sunlight filters through trees, the sound of rustling leaves, or the beauty of a blooming flower. Embracing new experiences, whether big or small, can lead to personal growth and a fresh perspective. We should always try taking up a new hobby, traveling to a new place, or even altering your daily routine. Change can introduce and increase the excitement and wonder into our lives, expanding our horizons and also rise up beyond the busy schedule of our mundane life.

“So, take a moment today to look beyond the horizon—there's a whole world waiting to be explored!”
